As I was riding the bus to work, something unexpected happened. A blonde lady made a U-turn right in the intersection, cutting the bus driver’s way. Can you guess what happened next? You guessed wrong! The driver didn’t say absolutely anything, didn’t lose his temper, didn’t honk, didn’t even sketch a grimace. He just waited patiently for the lady to finish the U-turn and go about her way, after which he continued driving calmly to the next station. I can only imagine how many curses the blonde lady would have received if she was in Bucharest. We should all learn from this, a true example of driving fair-play.
At lunch, Zarko and I went to an Asian restaurant called Wild Rice. The food was excellent and plenty, probably the best way I could spend 7,50 EURO today. I had some crispy duck with sweet-sour sauce, while Zarko had chicken with curry:
Every day I take the subway to and from work. And every day I pass by miles and miles of graffiti painstakingly drawn on the walls flanking the railroad. I probably wouldn’t appreciate a graffiti if it was placed on a monument or a nice building. But it’s all about context, and this time I can say the graffiti on the walls in the subway break the monotony and give them their own unique style.

Another day, another restaurant. 🙂 This time Robert and I went to “Otto’s Burger” and had a big juicy burger. That’s right, vegans and vegetarians – I ate meat and I liked it. I know that a cow had to die so that I would enjoy my lunch, but if you think about it… that cow probably wouldn’t have been born at all if it wasn’t for meat eaters like me. So before you call me a killer, just think that a cow actually lived for a while. Maybe not for long, but still, it lived and loved, and had happy cow dreams. Thanks to me. Food for thought…

Last night after taking a shower I came across a HUGE freakin’ spier in the bathroom! It wasn’t the first big spider I had to eliminate near my dorm room. It’s probably got something to do with the fact that I live in a semi-basement apartment and the windows are always open.
Lunch seems to become the highlight of every day, and that’s not necessary a good thing, because this means the rest of the day is simply not interesting enough to write about on my blog. Anyway, I will torture you with yet another food photo. Today, Robert, Annika and I went to “Via Vai Pizza Al Taglio”, which is now one of the best places I’ve eaten at in Hamburg, equaling “Wild Rice Asian Restaurant”.

Routine. It can depress you, but at the same time it’s what you need to become better at what you do. I am neither depressed, nor can say that I’ve become a better designer. But I am learning new things every day. Today I spend almost all day reading articles about flat design versus skeuomorphism versus material design, and browsed through Google’s material design principles and guidelines. It’s a whole new territory for me and this is probably the approach I should have adopted a long time ago, instead of just jumping head forward into Photoshop and design as I go.
Ok, enough about design, you want to know what I have eaten today. 🙂 I ate a shaorma. But you won’t get any picture. Why? Because routine and because reasons.

The food saga continues. 🙂 Today me and Annika had lunch at Cooko Asian Restaurant. If you remember from one of my previous posts, that’s where I had that wet-socks-tasting Vietnamese noodle soup. But this time the food was delicious. I had the offer of the day: flamed salmon. Mmmm…
The first marketing materials designed for Breeze by me have arrived. It’s two fliers: one for B2B and the other for B2G. In case you don’t know what that means, B2B stands for “business to business” and B2G for “business to government”. Basically we are selling our air quality monitoring sensor to other businesses as well as to cities.
The highlight of the day (and night) was the huge party thrown by Silpion at the end of a 3-day conference called Solutions Hamburg. Thanks to Robert, we got a discount code that allowed us to attend the conference for free, which would otherwise cost over 600 euro. I wasn’t able to attend the conference, since that was during my working schedule, but I did attend probably the best party I’ve been to this year. They had everything: free food, free drinks, DJs of all kinds and a huge venue to accommodate over 3000 people! They even had a male-centaur and a lady-centaur that greeted the participants!

I woke up late, as I usually do on Saturdays. But then I had to hurry up because I was about to go on a tour of Hamburg. Just a couple of weeks before I have stumbled upon a website called Hamburg Greeters. It’s a very cool idea – volunteers get to show the city to tourists and other curious people, all free of charge. This time it was Jan Hennings who offered himself to show us around. We were 6 people in total: me, Jan, Zarko (my work colleague), Ivana (Zarko’s girlfriend), Carlos (a trainee from Mexico) and Milos (a trainee from Serbia who was living in Hamburg for the past 2-3 years).
For 5 hours, Jan took us to the most important parts of Hamburg. We visited the Town Hall, the harbor, we took the ferry, we went on the other side of the River Elbe through a tunnel, and finally we visited Reeperbahn, the best place to party during the night.
Thanks to Jan we found out interesting facts about the places we visited. He was an awesome guide and his English is impeccable. Thank you, Jan! 🙂

Not every day brings new adventures. Today I celebrated one month since Hamburg became my home. It was a day of reflection, looking back at how many things have changed in just 30 days. Who knows what next month will bring? Stay tuned for more, next Monday.
