Most of you are probably just coming back from the seaside or from the mountains where you celebrated “The International Labor Day”. I myself went to the Black Sea with some friends. The water was cold as ice, but that didn’t stop us from swimming and the sun was hotter than we estimated, so now we’re all red from sunburns. Perhaps you’re still recovering from the wild party last night, so I thought I’d write something light, something anyone can “digest” after all that food from yesterday’s picnic. Another month has passed, so in case you’re wondering what was going on on the internet while you were gone, here’s a list of the ten most viewed videos on YouTube. #10. Mozart vs Skrillex. Epic Rap Battles of History Season 2. (20,332,878 views) I’m not sure how many of you heard of “Epic Rap Battles”, but for a while now they’re becoming more and more popular with their “This versus That” videos. Their formula is quite simple: they ask the viewers to suggest two famous personalities which they then make “battle” on the stage using nothing but rap lyrics. So far the battles included Barack Obama vs Mitt Romney, Rasputin vs Stalin, Nikola Tesla vs Thomas Edison and many others. Their latest video features Mozart vs Skrillex and ranks 10 in our video chart. #9. Surveillance Video Related to Boston Bombings (21,582,983 views) During the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013, two pressure cooker bombs exploded at 2:49 p.m. EDT (18:49 UTC), killing 3 people and injuring 264. The bombs exploded about 13 seconds and 190 m apart, near the finish line on Boylston Street. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) took over the investigation, and released photographs and a video of two suspects on April 18. This week I am going to show you briefly how to create a WordPress website from scratch. You do not need to have any skills at all. Perhaps some basic html skills however are a plus. I will not go into details. This is just an overview. Purchase a domain of course, you must first need to have a domain (aka a name) for your website; my website’s domain is tudorbercea.com you can purchase the domain from basically any domain registrars or hosting providers; just do a google search with “buy domain” and you will find plenty of websites where you can purchase your domain; of course, your domain must be available (aka nobody else has bought it before you) Purchase hosting for your website any website must be hosted on a server you can buy 1Gb, 3Gb or even more – according to your needs – from various hosting providers the criteria I took in consideration when choosing my hosting provider were: [server space / price] ratio – the higher the ratio, the better; you want to pay as little as possible for one Mb of space you purchase monthly bandwidth – preferably unlimited; you don’t want to have a fixed amount of data that you can upload/download to your server space number of domains you can host; at first, I bought 2 domains: tudorbercea.com and tudorbercea.ro and I needed a hosting provider that would allow me to host at least 2 domains number of MySQL databases; any WordPress website has an associated MySQL database, therefore you must be able to host at least as many databases as the number of domains hosted on your server; SSD – the latest Solid State Disks technology allows your website to load much faster than conventional Hard Drives there are other criteria and it’s always best to search for some reviews before deciding on your hosting provider; I chose www.xservers.ro because they scored highes at the criteria above and I also found some good reviews regarding their client service Add your domain to your hosting service usually you can buy both the domain and the hosting together; if that is the case, you can probably skip down to step 4 you need to make sure that your newly-purchased domain will be hosted on your hosting for this, you need to make sure that the DNS (Domain Name Servers) of your domain point to your hosting provider; please note that this might take 40 minutes to several hours to complete; your domain registrar should normally send you detailed information about how you can access your domain’s DNS; I had to access http://access.enom.com (see pictures below) Install WordPress installing WordPress is easy; here is the complete guide (click here) Customize your website your website is pretty much done; all you need to do now is customize your website and add content on posts and pages; but perhaps this is a subject for another tutorial I hope you enjoyed this first tutorial. The article below is written by my friend, Emil Huzu. Maia is a cheerful 4 years little girl from Iasi, Romania. Very curious in her nature and eager to learn, obstinately determined and contagiously positive, she loves music and dance, and adores admiring herself in the mirror attempting some dance moves while murmuring a song J She’s very creative with her Legos and reading books in her own language and recently she’s fascinated with Mickey Mouse and his friends’ world. Maia suffered a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) before she was born, on the night when Marina, her mother, has suffered a preeclampsia while being 37 weeks pregnant (preeclampsia is when a pregnant woman develops high blood pressure and protein in the urine). When Maia was 6 months old, the neurologist diagnosed her with right spastic hemiparesis, namely: sequelae AVC ischemic perinatal territory ACM left, right spastic hemiparesis, symptomatic partial epilepsy. This is a muscle tone and voluntary motor control disorder causing muscular imbalance in her right hand, arm and leg, causing her difficulty walking and speaking. Maia began recovery at the Children’s Hospital in their hometown Iasi immediately after diagnosis. When she was 8 months old, she suffered the first epilepsy attack and began treatment in Bucharest with injectable Synacten (containing cortisone, a hormone of growth) and anticonvulsant drugs (Depakine). Following this treatment, Maia and her mother went to Sibiu (400km away from Iasi) to start a therapy with Vojta method (www.vojta.com). Progress was visible since early beginnings: when Maia was 13 months old, her motor development was significantly imbalanced compared to her ideal age-specific evolution, while after only few months of therapy she could walk on all fours and sit. She was 2 years old when she took her first steps, but her right foot could hardly touch the ground. Travelling to Sibiu for 2 weeks of therapy every 3 months, per hospital’s therapy scheme, was not sufficient for Maia’s steady recovery. For this reason, Marina rented a room and moved to Sibiu when Maia was 18 months, keen on Maia receiving daily therapy sessions for continued progress. In the autumn of 2012, together with the therapist, they also decided to get Maia wear orthotics to adjust movement of her right leg (a leg-brace that is worn on the lower leg and foot to support the ankle, hold the foot and ankle in the correct position). Now the orthotics require repalcement since her foot structure has changed, hence Marina will have to travel to Oradea (300km away from Sibiu – their temporary residence city) and invest aprox 450 Euro to replace Maia’s orthotics. Maia’s recovery is lenghty and costly and – just like running a marathon – it takes great determination and discipline, as well as a dedicated group of supporters. Maia’s therapy incures 500 Euros of monthly expenses including fees for daily recovery sessions following the Vojta method, regular medical examinations, medication and numerous expenses with travels around the country for examinations and regular medical visits.
